WELCOME TO THE SCHLEIF RESEARCH GROUP

OUR RESEARCH FOCUS

Our lab at Hofstra University is dedicated to making molecules run headfirst into potential energy barriers and see whether they make it through. This so-called quantum mechanical tunneling can lead to unexpected reactivities, accelerated kinetics and overall just strange and exciting chemistry. Feel free to drop by and see our weird blend of organic synthesis, theoretical calculations and spectroscopy!

Role of Quantum Tunneling in Synthetic

Organic Chemistry

Curious what this exotic quantum mechanical tunneling has to do with the molecules swirling in your flask? This perspective with Ashim Nandi explores why how synthetic organic chemistry can be affected by tunneling, leading to unexpected reaction products and potentially prohibiting synthetic access entirely.
